Soldier Boy: The Diary of a Soldier in War
Soldier Boy: The Diary of a Soldier in War

Soldier Boy is Chris Valentine’s reminiscence of his first combat tour of duty as an Army UH-1 helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968. The narration begins with Chris reaching back to the suppressed recesses of his mind on his 60th birthday to answer his son’s question about what the war was like. The details of his recollection allow the reader to feel of what a brand-new pilot felt while flying into deadly combat landing zones. Chris describes with vivid detail the fear of his first combat assault mission.
